Tis the season! It is time to get ready for the busy spring and summer traffic at your self storage property. Take time for some spring cleaning: do outdoor maintenance and landscaping, verify your facility’s security features and deep-clean the office. In addition, take time to get your property tenant-insurance ready. The following spring cleaning checklist for facilities with a limited lines license to sell tenant insurance can get you started.

Office Setup

  • Lease: Take time to review the insurance language in your lease document. Make sure it is up-to-date and matches how you handle tenant insurance at your property. Some insurance providers will provide insurance lease language that aligns best with their program.
  • Insurance Application: Your insurance application is filed with the state. Confirm with your insurance provider that you have the correct application loaded into your point of sale system.
  • Certificate of Insurance: What kind of proof of insurance do you provide your tenants? Make sure they receive accurate documentation of their coverage.

Employee Training

  • New Hires: If you have new employees who will interact with your tenants about insurance, make sure they are properly trained. Contact your insurance provider for information about employee training.
  • Refresher Training: Annual training may be required for your staff. Contact your insurance provider and confirm your team is up-to-date on their training.
