You Never Get a Second Chance to Make a First Impression

This is a three-part installment examining how you can put the best foot forward with potential tenants. We have all heard the old phrase, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression" and we should know by now it is a fact. In the first installment, we will focus on applying this sentiment to your company's website.

When storage was young it was very simple: build it, have an ad in the yellow pages and people would find you. However, today’s fast-paced environment only reinforces the "need it now" mentality, thus you have to have a state-of-the-art website.

We have all seen webpages that basically look like a postcard or simply a copy of a brochure. In addition, there are sites that do not have pricing listed. The fact remains that in 2018, any website without pricing is going to get passed by very quickly.

Further, today's website should be mobile friendly and adjust to any size screen (responsive). It should clearly post your prices and have a call to action, or better yet, multiple options. For example, our site at Devon Self Storage has the following options: Pay Now; Reserve Now; Rent Now, all of which are clearly identified for the customer.

Having clean, crisp, up-to-date photos and a Google video tour are also highly recommended for your page. I would suggest hiring a professional such as FocalRack to do the photo shoot and tour. The plus side to this is you can also use the photos on aggregator sites as well as printed materials you may later use for marketing.

However, having a world class website does not mean you will attract more business. You need to have optimal SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing) presence to ensure that when a customer searches for storage in your area you are on the first page of any Google search. Consider outsourcing these items to a reputable company. Obviously, you do not want to waste money advertising in Philadelphia, MS if your location is in Philadelphia, PA and a professional company dedicated to such services ensures our stores command a relevant position in the markets we cover.
