As we enter the new calendar year, business owners should not only be thinking about their personal New Year’s resolutions, but also some resolutions within their workplace. Setting realistic goals not only benefits the business, but the employees as well. There are several great ways to benefit your employees this year, one being enhancing work-life balance.

Work-life balance is an important concept that supports the efforts of employees as they split their time and energy between work and the other important aspects of their lives.   • Model Appropriate Behavior and Support Employees in the Pursuit of Work-Life Balance- Help create a work environment in which work-life balance is both supported and expected. Employers should make sure that they refrain from being a detriment when it comes to an employees' work-life balance. Making employees feel guilty for taking breaks or time off is not good practice. Learning to let go will pay dividends in building a dedicated and motivated staff.
  • Exercise - Encourage employees to walk during their break time or offer discounted gym memberships if possible. Exercise can ultimately be great for work morale and productivity.
  • Be Parent Friendly - Making the workplace more parent friendly can be very beneficial. This can be as simple as offering 30 minutes flex time on Fridays to allow people to beat the traffic and get home earlier. You can also schedule days throughout the year for children to come to work with their parents so that the children can understand what their parents are doing at work.
  • Team-Building Activities - Team building encourages camaraderie around the office. Come up with creative team-building activities onsite so that employees will not have to worry about traveling or personal schedules.

Achieving a comfortable work-life balance does not just happen; it takes strategy and thought. You can make work-life balance a labor of love with a little strategy and collaboration. Running a business is a huge responsibility, so employers may not have time to display or even assist with a healthy work-life balance.
