5 Steps to Getting Your New Biz Online

Buying a new facility can be very exciting. Whether you are building a new facility, or buying an existing one, here are some important marketing tips to get your brand started out right.

  1. Are you keeping the brand or developing a new brand? If you are developing a new brand you will want to get a professional logo designed to use on your website, sign, and other marketing materials.  Preferably the brand name you choose for your facility should have “Self Storage” in it, with “Self Storage” being the prominent feature. You want your future customers to know that you are, indeed, a self storage facility when they drive by and catch a glimpse of your sign.

  1. Purchase a domain name and get a landing page up with “Coming Soon”. Having a domain with a little bit of age behind it will help you rank faster. The golden rule of thumb is to have your domain name and a “Coming Soon” page up at least 90 days before you open. During these 90 days you should be working on creating your full website, which should be live at least 30 days before you open. This gives Google ample time to index your site so you can be found when customers search for you. If you are not rebranding make sure you negotiate during the buying process to get control of the existing website and domain and other digital assets such as logins for social profiles, and directory listings.

  1. Setup Call Tracking and Recording. Call tracking is a very valuable ally. Before you create any marketing materials, postcards, mailings, website - get tracking numbers. This will help you measure your efforts. It will make your marketing much easier if this is set up early.

  2. Claim your Google Map Listing. This is one of the most important things you should do, and it’s free. Creating your Google Map Listing will allow for you to show in the local results when someone is searching for self storage in your area. It is important to claim so you can verify all the information is correct. This is absolutely essential. If your hours are wrong on your listing, you could potentially frustrate a new customer. That is not a good way to start the relationship.

  1. Consider self service online rental tools. Sometimes there are customers who want to rent when you’re not open, or want to rent without having to talk to anyone. There are a variety of tools that work with your website and property management software. Using an online rental tool will give your manager some relief and make your customers very happy.
