Bellhops and OpenTech Put College Kids to Work through Moving Help App

Good news for self-storage operators and storage tenants everywhere: Bellhops on-demand moving service offers assistance with local moves through OpenTech’s innovative and accessible platforms. The new partnership between startup Bellhops and OpenTech Alliance, Inc. targets moving jobs that are too small for the bigger moving firms out there.

”I see the Bellhops model similar to the Uber model and we all know how wildly successful that has been.” said OpenTech CEO and President Robert Chiti. “The team at Bellhops is well capitalized and they are very focused on ensuring the highest level of customer service. Together we will be bringing another new innovative revenue stream to self-storage operators and maybe even more importantly a few spare hands to their tenants.”

Bellhops Uses College Work Force and Innovative App to Offer On-Demand Moving Services

With operations in 130 US cities, the Chattanooga, TN-based Bellhops uses real-time software to accept moving requests from tenants and offer those jobs to a contract labor pool of more than 8,000 trained and insured college students; executed all through a simple app. Each transaction offers self storage operators a share in the revenue. For storage owners, they are able to offer a convenient and helpful service to customers while capitalizing on each job they provide.

The Bellhops platform will operate through OpenTech’s INSOMNIAC line of self-service kiosks, call center, and online rental software. By tapping into the transient and able-bodied population of college students available in most US cities, Bellhops offers an opportunity for these youngsters to make some extra cash, while providing a cost-effective service to people moving, and an extra revenue stream for self-storage operators that offer the service to tenants.

“I think it’s safe to say people don’t want to move themselves,” said Bellhops founder Cameron Doody. “They’re just price conscious and have needs that are manageable enough to forego the hassle and cost of traditional moving companies. We’re the answer for those people.”
