It's getting to be that time of year - back to school. This is when parents are inundated with buying school clothes, school supplies, paying fees, buying textbooks, and spending money on a host of other school related things. The demand on the pocket book can be draining to a family budget - especially to low-income families.

Storage Pros Self Storage recognizes the strain that low-income families feel at this time of year. They recently partnered with the Storage Business Owners Alliance LLC (SBOA) and are sponsoring a drive for school supplies in metro Detroit and the surrounding counties. The drive will be held in conjunction with Operation: Kid Equip.

Operation Kid Equip's mission is to provide the tools and support for children of low-income families so they can get a solid education. They strive to remove obstacles that might stand in the way of these children. They do this by providing school supplies, books, and hygiene items to the needy children in the metro Detroit area and in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. They also partner with schools to improve the children's reading proficiency.

"We are pleased to be working with the SBOA and Storage Pros Management on a much needed school supply drive. This will allow us to provide more for local kids in need, especially after the recent flood we experienced at our facility" said Josh Tokoph, Director of Operations for Operation: Kid Equip.

The number of students living at poverty level is alarming:

Macomb County: 61,000 kids
Oakland County: 66,000 kids
Wayne County: 178,000 kids

So, Operation Kid Equip has the potential to reach 305,000 children in metro Detroit and over 740,000 children across the state.

People in the community are encouraged to drop off these much needed school supplies at a local Storage Pros Self Storage drop off spot. The drive will go through the month of August.

Founded in 2012 by Ian Burnstein and David Levenfeld, SBOA bands owners of small-to mid-sized self storage facilities together to better compete with the larger storage companies. Annual membership fee is just $99 per year per store. For more information or to join, please visit the website or call 248-254-9000.
